Harrychella

Coachella has come and gone, and the most talked-about artist this year is the one and only Harry Styles. After headlining his first Coachella ever, the world was left speechless. Here is everything you need to know from both his performances.

As weekend one began, Harry performed opening night on Friday and was the last performer of the night. Harry’s outfit was none other than a jaw-dropper.

He first appeared in a long black feather coat, which after his First song came off to reveal his sparkly jumpsuit. He opened his set with his Newly released single “As It Was” from his upcoming album Harry’s House, which will release on May 20. But that wasn’t the only new song he sang. He also surprised the crowd by singing two new song’s never before heard called “Boyfriends” and “Late Night Talking.” And if you’re much like me, you haven’t stopped singing them since.

Those two new songs weren’t the only surprises of the night. Harry brought out the one and only Shania Twain, who he has been a long fan of, to perform on stage with him. They sang “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” and “You’re Still the One.” I would like to say this performance was simply iconic.

For weekend two, Harry found a way to upstage his last outfit by wearing a pink leather jacket vest and pants, including rhinestones, cherries and the initials HS on the back of his pants. After taking off the jacket, he revealed a matching pink leather vest. This outfit should definitely be in a museum, in my opinion.

For the setlist, Harry sang the same songs as weekend one but added in a fan favorite, his song Medicine, which to this day he has never released.

And of course, there had to be a surprise guest, and this time it was none other than Harry’s close friend Lizzo. They performed “I Will Survive” and “ What Makes You Beautiful” together. Anyone watching this performance would see the fun these two have performing together.

Overall, Harry’s performances were simply unforgettable. The stage presence Harry has on stage is like none other. Singing and dancing the whole time he performed and never forgot to stop and interact with the crowd.

Hopefully, we will see Harry Styles on the Coachella stage again in the future.

How mysterious doors lead to a new Harry Styles album

A mysterious Instagram and Twitter page called “youarehome” appeared out of nowhere a few weeks ago. Harry Styles fans immediately took it upon themselves to uncover the meaning of this account and if it was possibly related to Harry himself.

The accounts had a link to a website that was a door, yes, just a door. Once you clicked on it, an image appeared, and it would be something new every day.

Fans were going crazy to uncover what the images were and what they meant, but they knew that this had to do with Harry one way or another.

After a week filled with suspense, the answer was finally revealed as Harry posted on all platforms his new album cover with the caption “Harry’s House. May 20th.”

Just in Harry Styles’ fashion, giving a heart attack to everyone with no prior warning, he announced his new album just like that.

Everyone’s wish came true– well, for sure mine. So, after a long two years, we’re finally getting new Harry music.

I remember being at work and literally gasping for excitement when I saw the post.

Since then, we knew soon after a song would be released, and, of course, one week later, we got the “As It Was” song and music video on April 1st.

In a short part of the video, Harry is dancing around in a sparkly one-piece, and then, later on, is only his underwear for the rest. Yes, you read that right, just his underwear, allowing fans to see it all.

If you are much like me, “As It Was ” is all you have been listening to since it came out. How could we not? The song is simply amazing, just like everything else Harry does.

From now until May 20, when the rest of the album is released, I’ll be listening to “As It Was ” nonstop in anticipation of what’s to come.

The Evolution Of Harry Styles

Throughout his solo career, Harry Styles has arguably become more famous than he was in One Direction. The past two-ish years of the pandemic have been huge years of growth for the former boy band star. The world stood still for most during these months of quarantine and uncertainty, but Styles was nothing but productive and has made move after move to amplify his career.

First, following the band’s alleged 18-month hiatus in 2015, Styles immediately got to work on his debut self-titled album showcasing his new soft-rock sound. This led to a widely successful world tour in 2017 and 2018. In the same year, he starred in famed director Christopher Nolan’s World War ll film Dunkirk. Styles was off to a good start on his solo career with  a new album, world tour, and Academy Award-winning movie now on his resume.

With the release of his sophomore album Fine Line in December of 2019 and  his second world tour postponement, Styles kept busy by landing and filming two movies. The first is being in Olivia Wilde’s, no, we’re not talking about her, psychological thriller. Don’t Worry Darling, where he’ll act alongside household names like Florence Pugh and Chris Pine. The second is an adaptation of the book My Policeman where Styles plays a policeman having an affair with another man in 1950s England. Ending 2020 was the legendary Vogue photoshoot featuring Styles on the cover in a dress that had Candace Owens and shortsighted people alike up in arms. In 2021 Harry not only won his first Grammy and completed the sold-out North American leg of his postponed tour, but the role of ‘entrepreneur’ was added to his long list of credentials when his beauty brand ‘Pleasing’ was launched. With its $65 nail polish set and serums, this man really does have us paying his rent.

The newest Marvel movie, Eternals, premiered in theaters on November 5th. As engaging as it was with its star-studded and diverse casting, immortal beings, and LGBTQ+ representation, the thing that had movie-goers screaming came during the post-credits scene. Following a climactic ending, the post-credits scene featured Harry Styles in tights and a cape that introduced himself as a fellow eternal from a rainbow portal. Harry Styles, the now brother of Thanos, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Love On Tour made Styles $95 million, just the North American shows. He is one of the few solo artists to sell out Wembley Stadium in London completely , his cosmetic brand has sold out, and he has now joined forces with Disney’s $54 billion  company. Harry already owns a black Amex Card, at this rate soon he’ll buy the entire Earth; and I’m fine with that.

Whether you’re a fan of him or not, Harry Styles is inescapable at this point. His fame and influence seem to grow larger by the day. A few weeks ago, he got permission to shut down the roads in front of Buckingham Palace to shoot a music video for his upcoming album. One cannot deny the power he holds across the board in society. The outfits and accessories control fashion trends he’s papped in and fan projects have raised and donated thousands of dollars to charities in his name. His confidence in his feminine side makes him that much more attractive to men, women and non-binaries alike and has opened up conversations over toxic masculinity and gender fluidity. Former One Direction fans have been growing up with this man for over ten years now, and he embodies so much more to people than kindness. He represents sentimentality, comfort, joy and hope. His career is a high-speed train and I think I speak for all of us when I say we can’t wait to see what he does next.

Harry Styles Love on Tour-Inspired Lookbook

With Harry Styles beginning Love On Tour September fourth, new looks, singing clips and pictures from his concerts will soon fill up our social media timelines. “Harries” everywhere are looking forward to the day Styles arrives at his next venue and performs his best songs, from “Sign of the Times,” to “Falling”. To celebrate his tour, I put together five different Styles-inspired outfits for your inspiration.

As Styles says in his song “Cherry”, for his fans, “there’s a piece of you in how I dress.”

Look #1: Inspired by “Fine Line” Album Cover

Starting off with the most obvious look, inspiration came from Styles’ “Fine Line” album, which was released on December 13, 2019. Because this look might be a little too colorful for everyday wear, events like costume parties would be the perfect place to pull these off. Parties where people dress up as their top Spotify artist have been all over social media lately; having a small, fun party with friends each dressed in their icon’s outfits would be an event to look forward to on a weekend. Thanks to Austin’s wide range of thrift stores, from Texas Thrift to Goodwill, these looks would be very easy and affordable to recreate.

Look #2: Song-specific Outfits

In Styles’ discography, there are plenty of song options to pull inspiration from for a more subtle outfit. For the outfit pictured above, I took inspiration from one of my favorite songs, “Kiwi”, from his debut album “Harry Styles”, released on May 12, 2017. For obvious reasons, the outfit features a range of greens tied in with gold to pull together the color scheme. Though the word “kiwi” is not mentioned once in the song, Styles’ is known for his fruit-titled songs, like “Watermelon Sugar” and “Cherry”. These would be the easiest songs to recreate as outfits, though reading through the lyrics of other songs could potentially spark ideas.

Look #3: Inspired from Photoshoots

Emphasizing the word casual for this business casual look, outfit #3 includes influences from Styles’ personal style. Often, Styles is spotted wearing a colorful suit at events like photoshoots, red carpets and interviews. This outfit would be fun to recreate for a photoshoot day with friends, and you could try a variety of different colors that would achieve a similar look perfectly. I found my look at Texas Thrift located about 10 minutes away from UT campus. Texas Thrift holds various colorful suits towards the back of their store. Though digging through racks is required, finding the perfect outfit always feels like finding a treasure.

Look #4: Concert-inspired

As seen in Styles’ performances, he often wears a blazer or a long-sleeved button-up top. This outfit takes a girly spin on Styles’ concert looks and would be perfect for going out to eat with friends. Though it’s rare for women to wear blazers when they go out, the confidence boost they give is perfect for hanging out with friends and elevating style. This pink blazer also came from Texas Thrift for less than $10, which was the best feeling ever, and it reminded me of Styles as soon as my eyes landed on it.

Look #5: Everyday Merch Outfit

Because the previous getups were for going out or dressing up, this next option is the best for an everyday look and definitely the most comfortable. Bought on the San Antonio date of “Love On Tour”, this t-shirt can be worn multiple ways, from wearing it with leggings to shorts. However, since Styles often uses flare pants, I paired the merchandise with flared jeans to continue to pull from Styles’ influence.

With five different ensembles put together, Styles would definitely approve of each. Hopefully, one look calls to you and pushes you to channel your inner Harry Styles. Take inspiration from one or all looks, for everyday fits or costumes, and have fun dressing up!

Dream with me: the day harry styles invented sleeping

When I got to college, I noticed that you were either in tune with your mental health or you weren’t. With the mixture of new classes, a new campus and a completely new city while also not knowing anyone, life gets stressful. I quickly learned that keeping up with my mental health would be the best thing for me. I’m sure some of my college friends can agree.

Throughout my first two years on campus and since the beginning of quarantine, I’ve been hearing a lot about the Calm app but I’ve never been one to believe in meditation or sleep tactics. What was the final push I needed to give it a try? Harry Styles. The Calm team decided it was a good idea to partner with the singer to create a bedtime story for their sleep category and I couldn’t agree with them more.

Now, let me explain myself before the inevitable judgement begins. I’ve been a fan of Harry Styles ever since the very beginning so when I found out he was going to narrate a bedtime story for Calm, I was definitely not calm. His music is already therapy in itself so I couldn’t even imagine what a bedtime story would do.

The audio was released July 8th and I was frantically refreshing the page until it was available. I’m an honest woman so I would be lying if I told you I didn’t laugh at first when listening to the first few words in this ASMR-style bedtime story titled “Dream with Me.” It was a lot to take in. I just couldn’t picture Harry Styles sitting down, leaning into a mic and whisper-talking into it. Picture that. You can’t. For those of you who haven’t given it a listen, Harry takes you on a journey through multiple landscapes while describing the scene with his too-good British accent. From the stars to the valleys, you’ll go on a world tour in just 30 minutes.

That night, I had actually wanted to get a good night sleep and was hoping this would help. Maybe even ditch the melatonin sitting on my bedside table. My sleep schedule has been completely thrown off guard, as I’m sure most of you can relate to. Now, I couldn’t tell you what he was saying or what the story was about but all I know is that whatever they did, it worked. I was out like a light within what felt like a few minutes. The half-an-hour mixture of ambient sounds paired with his slow, soothing voice allowed me to drift off into the best sleep I’ve had in weeks. I don’t want to say too much to where I spoil it for you but I obviously recommend listening.

On another note, the audio has become somewhat of a meme on Twitter. Because of Harry’s accent, some of the words he pronounces just sound odd but in the best way possible. I’ll let you watch for yourself.

Harry isn’t the only celebrity that you can have read you to sleep. Our very own Matthew McConaughey has also narrated a bedtime story for those who would like to feel alright, alright alright. The Calm app also has several other advantages besides having celebrities narrate bedtime stories. Under the meditation tab, there’s a ‘7 Days of Calming Anxiety’ that I have been trying out to help meditate and clear my mind and I am honestly very surprised at how well my mind and body relax to it. If you were like me and didn’t believe it could help you, give it a try. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. There are also specific categories you can pick to help guide your meditation. Besides that, you can take a look at the library of calming music they have. They have plenty of lo-fi beats for you to study to if you’re into that.

You can get a subscription to the app here: https://www.calm.com

Happy listening!
