Rolling stones to visit austin for a second time

On Monday, Feb. 3rd, Austin locals noticed a strikingly familiar and famous new mural near South Congress Avenue and Riverside Drive. On the side of a shutdown nightclub, a bright blue and yellow wall bears a red open mouth with its tongue out. The first thought anyone has when they see this specific picture: the legendary English rock group, The Rolling Stones. To little to no surprise, a quick turn of the onlooker’s head reveals lyrics from the band’s hit “Gimme Shelter ” with the phrase, “it’s just a kiss away,” painted on the mural.

Soon after, the Stones posted a vague video clip to the group’s Instagram, sparking even more confusion and rumors. After much speculation and curiosity surrounding this, the clues finally came together and a Rolling Stones promoter confirmed to the Austin Chronicle on Feb. 6 what so many people are wondering. The Rolling Stones are coming to Austin on Sunday, May 24.

Information about the concert broke and tickets went on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. They will be playing at Austin’s Circuit of The Americas Super Stage venue. Guests are allowed to purchase camping packages for the venue and spend the weekend there for the concert.

Austin was not the only U.S. city to wake up to an instantly recognizable art piece. Buffalo, Minneapolis, Detroit and Pittsburgh all found murals in their cities as well.

The Rolling Stones have not performed in Austin since 2006 in Zilker Park, so this is projected to be an exciting event that should bring lots of attention from locals and visitors alike. The group played in Houston last year as a part of their “No Filter” tour which began in 2017 and continued into 2019. However, this will be the second performance that the Rolling Stones has ever put on in Austin.

Tickets went on sale for $98 each and that number is expected to rise as the date approaches. If you are interested, visit the Circuit of The America’s website to purchase tickets or find out more information about the event. Be sure to go visit the mural on South Congress and discover the excitement that this group of rock ‘n roll legends brings to Austin and the rest of the country.
