The Road to Tiktok Fame

Tiktok has stormed into the social media world and become one of the most exciting and known apps on millions of people’s phones. Videos with everything from lip-syncing to obscure hobbies in the duration of 60 second clips (save for the dreaded part 2’s) have become the millennial and Gen Z obsession in a short amount of time. It’s predecessor, Vine, paved the way for content that everyone loves, and that anyone can get famous from — literally, anyone.

Whether it’s as obvious as daily routines or as obscure as axe racing, all it takes is one lucky hit on the For You page to become a TikTok star.

The Algorithm

One of those old reliable ways towards TikTok fame is following the algorithm. Sounds, hashtags and trends are all ways to get noticed on the For You page.

Find whatever’s trending, and find a way to get it into your video to reach the most people — no matter how relevant it is.

For many of us that are trying to get famous to pay that tuition, the latest TikTok dance is the way to go. There’s a new one trending every week, it seems, and usually they’re not too hard to mimc.

If dancing isn’t your thing, though, there’s all kinds of avenues. Tiktok’s algorithm provides for niche audiences. A lot of jokes have gone around about how TikTok’s For You page really is a “For You” page in that it seems to get oddly specific.

Finding that thing you could make 100 videos about is going to be key. Consistent content is going to have your videos always reaching towards people with similar interests and further your chances of TikTok fame.

The Interactions

Beyond what’s trending, there are  other ways to get noticed on the app. Interacting with popular TikTokers is a great way to get noticed by them and their followers.

Commenting, dueting and stitching are the three main active forms of interaction to help gain those followers.

Stuck on who to duet? A good start is the D’amelio sisters who have millions of followers and are mostly known for dancing TikToks. Bella Poarch is another famous TikToker who is one of the lip-syncing icons of TikTok. If you want more ideas for who to interact with then check out this top 40 list.

Beyond interacting with the stars of the show, finding smaller influences who share similar interests to follow will help boost your social network. By becoming TikTok friends with people in your niche  you can grow together, and help share and build each other’s audiences.
