Popular Podcasts You Need to Listen to

Today is the age of podcasts. Whether you listen to them to catch up on your favorite influencer, pop culture or self-help advice, podcasts have taken how we consume media to a whole other level.

Being a college student comes with walking miles to class, working out at the gym and maybe even going on long drives to clear your head. These could all involve listening to something, and I have a few podcasts that are perfect for you.

1. Hot Mess with Alix Earle:

This podcast invites you in on the life of TikTok influencer Alix Earle, who I’m sure most of you have heard of by now. Alix graduated from the University of Miami this past May and has been living her best life traveling with friends and family. In her podcast, she explores many important topics for college students like eating disorders, sorority life and romantic relationships. This podcast is particularly unique because it also has a video version; you can choose to watch on your laptop, TV or in headphones on a walk.

2. Normal Gossip by Kelsey McKinney:

“Normal Gossip” is not like any other podcast. Host Kelsey McKinney delivers anonymous stories by those who submit their craziest drama. If you need anything to listen to for a long road trip, this will do it for you. I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve gasped while listening to this podcast. The plot twists, the family drama– everything about it is amazing.

3. Crime Junkie by Ashley Flowers:

If you’re a true crime fan, this sensationalized podcast hosted by Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat delivers murders, kidnappings, history and more. When asking my friends about their favorite podcasts, this one came up time after time, showing its popularity with college students. Ashley has a witty tone that truly keeps listeners engaged in the content while being sensitive about the topics.

4. CHEERS! with Avery Woods

Avery Woods, TikTok influencer who got her following when she was a pediatric nurse, has since dabbled in podcasting. Being on streaming services for only a couple of weeks, Avery has so far interviewed those close in her life, like her husband and friends. The podcast centers around Avery’s life and those who have influenced her, while they engage in deep conversations like financial hardships, being a mother, and growing up. If you’re in the mood to listen to something more conversational, “CHEERS!” is your go-to.

5. The Toast with Jackie and Claudia Oshry

If you want to know the latest on pop culture, “The Toast” will make sure you’re caught up. Jackie and Claudia unapologetically cover all things involving celebrities while going in depth. I would say this podcast is best listened to in the morning, hence the name “The Toast,” as the information is fresh. Enjoy your cup of coffee or morning chores with this one!

As a podcast lover myself, each one of these has a specific purpose depending on how I feel. College students can experience an array of emotions throughout their day, and these podcasts can help as an outlet to escape the stress of final exams and group projects. Happy listening!
