Please join the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at UT Austin for a conversation with award-winning photojournalist Nicole Tung on Sept. 14, from 4 to 5 p.m. in BMC 5.102.

Nicole Tung is an award-winning freelance photojournalist based in Istanbul, Turkey who covers the Middle East and Asia. She has photographed the wars and their aftermath in Syria, Iraq and Libya; the plight of Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar; violence against women in Turkey; Yazidi women soldiers in Iraq; Native American war veterans in the U.S.; former child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo; pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong and the refugee crisis in Europe. Her work has been published internationally by The New York Times, Stern (Germany), NRC Netherlands, BuzzFeed News, Le Monde (France), Vogue, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal and others. She also photographs for international NGOs. She has won numerous awards, most recently the 2018 James Foley Award for Conflict Reporting, named in honor of her friend and colleague. She is a grantee of the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF). Nicole graduated from New York University in 2009 with degrees in journalism and history.
