Six Things to Do in Austin During April

With only five weeks left in the spring semester, time is running out to enjoy everything Austin has to offer. And even though midterms and finals are fast approaching, it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy everything going on during the month of April. From fashion weeks to comedy festivals, there’s so much in Austin you to do this month.  You, your friends and everyone else you know can surely find something to enjoy before the month is over.



Austin Fashion Week

Austin Fashion Week showcases the work of fashion designers, photographers and models from around the state of Texas through hundreds of  runway shows and benefits for local non-profits. The 10th anniversary of this year’s fashion week, also known as Fashion X Austin, will be the largest week of fashion events in Texas and the 4th largest fashion week in the United States. Austin International Poetry Festival

Austin International Poetry Festival is the country’s largest non-juried poetry festival, in which poets from around the world gather for four days of live performances, readings and workshops. The event, hosted to  promote literary excellence and celebrate the diversity of humanity, includes adult and youth events, poetry slams, and poetry readings scheduled at popular local venues during the festival. Capitol 10K

The Statesman Capitol 10K is the largest 10K race in Texas and one of the top 10 in the nation. The event will include everything from a two-day Health & Fitness Expo to a party at the finish line on Vic Mathias Shores Main Lawn. The race will begin on Congress Avenue Bridge, head straight for the Texas State Capitol building, and eventually end at a beautiful lakeside park. The race itself will take place on April 8 in downtown Austin, and more information about the events can be found here.



Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival

Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival presented by the Paramount Theatre brings dozens of the funniest, wittiest and oddest world-class comics from around the globe to Austin, TX. National headliners, up-and-comers and local Austin-based comedians ensure that there are options for every type of comedy fan; die-hards to those just looking for a fun night. The event begins on April 18 and continues until April 21 and more information about the event can be found here.



Earth Day ATX

Earth Day Austin is the largest sustainability event in Central Texas, in which thousands of people come to learn about conservation and sustainable solutions, celebrate their love for the environment, and get connected to innovative green businesses and organizations. At the event, attendees will also explore a variety of activities that allow them to discover new connections to the environment and environmental issues. Eeyore’s Annual Birthday Party

Eeyore’s Annual Birthday Party is a day-long festival which has taken place annually in Austin, Texas since 1963. It includes live music, food and drink vending which benefit local non-profit organizations, attendees in colorful costumes, and very large drum circles. The event is frequented by children and families, with specific events presented for them by the event organizers.
