Target Is Almost Here!
After almost an entire year of anticipation, every millennial’s favorite store has finally made its way to the 40 acres! The 22,000-square-foot store offers the full range of products, from apparel to produce. This “flexible format” is the first in the state of Texas to pioneer the company’s new initiative: small, adaptable stores tailored to the community around it. For the Target at Dobie Twenty21, this means a focus on clothes, campus furniture, and cosmetics with less availability of toys and appliances. Similar stores at University of North Carolina, University of Southern California and University of Florida are in the works, expected to open before December 2017.
The new store will also impact the economic environment around UT, hiring over 50 employees and awarding $6,000 in grants to three local nonprofits: Blanton Museum of Art, Caritas of Austin and Out Youth.
Members of the media get a sneak peek on Nov. 11, before the soft opening scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The grand opening is scheduled the next day at 8 a.m., with complimentary reusable bags given free of charge to the first 1,000 guests. Although the store was originally supposed to open in July, it’s ready just in time for the holidays. Additionally, because the trip to the former closest Target to campus meant driving 3 miles up I-35, most students agree: better late than never.
