The Best Plus-Size Clothing Brands
Finding clothes is difficult. There’s always the possibility that stores, won’t cater to your needs. That pants will be too long for too short. A shirt that you thought was cute in the stores lighting turns out to be gross in the real world. However, when you’re plus size these challenges exist, but with the added hurdle of wondering if the store carries my size. For so many other plus size women and me, we feel clothing stores neglect us. And even when some stores do carry our size, they make garments that look like oversize doilies, or worse, like a potato sack that covers everything. While the world of fashion is always changing, here is a list of stores you will be guaranteed to find something cute and stylish to wear.
The sister store to Hot Topic, Torrid is where you can find all of the latest trends in one place. Their clothes range from laid-back jeans and graphic tees to party dresses. Torrid even carries a line of shoes made for wider feet, so you’re never left without footwear for your new outfits. While Torrid is on the pricer side, their items are made well and last for a long time. A bonus for this store is their size range. With clothing ranging from size 10 to size 30, no matter what size you are, you will find an item of clothing to leave with.
While I am generally against online shopping for clothes, as the chance of an item being the wrong size is too big of a risk to take, ModCloth is an excellent place to find gorgeous indie and vintage attire. Their online ModStylist can even help you find clothes in the right size. However, if you are still hesitant to buy clothes online, ModCloth has a physical store in Austin on West 2nd Street where you can try the clothes on before you buy. The store even offers free one-on-one personal styling sessions to find the right size and style for your taste.
Target- Ava and Viv
As if Target couldn’t get any better, their in-store fashion brand Ava and Viv is full of cute styles that are affordable to own. I have found many great shirts from the brand, in styles I feel good wearing. If you want an even better deal on their clothes, I recommend looking on the sales rack, as you can find their clothes for as low as $5. However, make sure to doublecheck your measurements, as the size chart for Ava and Viv is different from most stores. And try the clothes on in the dressing room, nothing is worse than picking out a beautiful shirt only to discover it doesn’t fit.
When you first hear Lane Bryant, I know the first thing you think about is a place your mom or aunt loves to shop. However, Lane Bryant is changing and is offering a greater variety of styles than ever before. Lane Bryant is a great place to find business attire, fantastic for when you start interviewing for jobs and internships. Plus, their line of lingerie will make you feel comfortable and sexy at the same time. I call that a win-win any day.
