Major League Soccer Team, Columbus Crew SC, Considers Move to Austin
Columbus Crew SC announced Tuesday that they are interested in moving to Austin as part of recent efforts to expand their team.
“This includes a possible move to Austin,” said Anthony Precourt, the chief executive officer of Precourt Sports Ventures and chairman of Columbus Crew SC, “which is the largest metropolitan area in North America without a major league sports franchise.”
However, he notes that relocation would not happen without a stadium plan. Mayor Steve Adler denied reports by some outlets that there would be a bond election for the stadium.
“It would be a privately financed stadium in Austin, and I really think it can get done,” Precourt said. “We are not asking for tax dollars.”
