I have a love-hate relationship with my oily skin. When my skin looks great, I feel confident and ready to tackle the world. But when my skin is at its worst I look like I just ran a five-hour marathon. As someone with oily skin, I know far too well the difficulties of trying to achieve clear skin. Which is why I came up with a list of products that help keep the oil at bay so you can slay the day.

Blotting Paper- e.l.f- $1

oily skin

This blotting paper by e.l.f  is perfect for when you start getting a little bit of shine throughout the day. Even better is the price. At only $1 there is no reason to be hesitant at making sure your skin looks great. However, here a little trick if you either left your blotting sheets at home or haven’t bought them yet. You can use the toilet seat covers in most public restrooms to keep your face matte as well, as most seat covers are made from the same material as blotting paper. With options, this cheap buying expensive blotting sheets is just insane.

Charcoal Masks- Origins Clear Improvement- $27

You and your skin need a little TLC every once in a while. I have found one of the best ways to relax and unwind, is to do a charcoal face mask at least once a week. Not only does it allow me to take some time for myself, but my skin gets to look great while doing so. Charcoal masks are especially great at pulling oil from your skin and making your pores look smaller. The Origins mask does wonders on the skin, as it pulls the dirt out of my pores. However, if you are new to Charcoal mask or want something a little cheaper than the Feeling Beautiful charcoal mask works just as well for roughly one-sixth of the price.

Face wash- Fresh Soy Face Cleanser- $32

I cannot live without washing my face twice a day. While I can admit I do not always reach my goal, I already know my skin will be off because I did not wash it. My favorite face wash at the moment is the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, as I find it works really well on my skin. The Fresh cleanser provides a deep clean and gets all the oil and dirt out of my pores, without leaving my face tight. While this is my holy grail of face wash, I would be a fool to think that everybody is willing to spend this kind of money on facewash. A cleanser that has a similar effect to the Fresh cleanser would be Yes to Cucumbers Gentle Cleansing Milk which is about one-fifth of the price. Both are excellent choices for clear skin.

Moisturizer- L’Oreal Hydra Genius- $13

As someone with oily skin, the last thing you think about is putting a moisturizer on. However, even if you have oily skin, you need to moisturize to keep your face hydrated. While most moisturizers are creams that only add more junk to an oily face, L’Oreal Hydra Genius, leaves oily skin matte. Ever since I started using this moisturizer, I have noticed a vast improvement in my skin, and I do not get breakout as much as I used to. I have no alternatives to this product because I believe it is that good. Plus one bottle lasts you a long time, meaning that you’ll save money rather than spending it on trying to find a moisturizer that works.

Exfoliating- Ole Henriksen Pore Balance Facial Sauna Scrub- $27

I find that exfoliating my skin at least twice a week helps keep my pores free of oil and dirt. This Exfoliator by Ole Henriksen is excellent, as at first, it warms up the skin to open the pores, and then cools down with a cooling mint sensation to help close the pores. My skin feels so smooth and looks so matte after I use it. However, be careful when it comes to exfoliating, as doing it too often will make your skin produce more oil.

Toner- Thayer’s Witch Hazel- $9

After washing your face, it is essential to use a toner to further clean the pores of dirt and oil. Thayers Witch Hazel Toner is fantastic as it keeps oil at bay, while the rose petal helps sooth the skin and prevents redness. This toner is an excellent step to add to your skincare routine to get the best skin of your life.

Sunscreen- Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Sun Milk 50 SPF- $11

It’s easy to forget this critical step in our skincare routine, especially as the weather begins to cool. However, as someone with oily skin it hard to find a sunscreen that doesn’t feel heavy on my skin, or causes me to break out. This Sunscreen by Etude House is excellent as it lightweight and leaves my skin matte. However, the best part is the 50 SPF coverage, as I am someone who appreciates not having to reapply my sunscreen too often.
