At 1:46 pm, UTPD and other emergency officials responded to a stabbing in front of Jester near Gregory Gym. Three students were reported injured and one dead.

The suspect is now in custody and there are no other threats, UT officials confirmed.

There were no sirens to warn students of the incident, but UT-Austin sent out a text alert at 2:16pm informing students of the crime and advising them to avoid the area near 21st and Speedway. UT and Austin PD are still investigating the scene.

Classes are canceled for the remainder of the day.

President Gregory Fenves released a statement reassuring students that campus safety is UT’s highest priority.

The Counseling and Mental Health Center is open and available to any students that need someone to talk to. Overall, stay alert, stay informed and keep each other safe. To stay updated on the incident, follow @UTAustin and @Austin_Police on Twitter.
