The Blanton Museum Is A Place For More Than Art
More often than not, a trip to the museum is a dull experience. It’s a place where the paintings stay in the same spot, the walls stay the same color and it takes an average of 20 minutes — maybe less — to walk through the entire museum.
However, the Blanton Museum of Art is an exception to this stereotype.
According to Blanton’s website, they permanently hold more than 17,000 works and are recognized for their European paintings, an encyclopedic collection of prints and drawings and modern and contemporary American and Latin American art.
Besides the snazzy art, the Blanton hosts a series of events that attract more than just your average art-goer. Currently, the museum holds yoga classes, music performances and — in case you didn’t know — weddings. Yeah, you read that right.
On the third Thursday of each month, the Blanton hosts Yoga in the Galleries, a free all-level yoga class. Adriene Mishler from Yoga with Adriene is the instructor, and no mat nor experience are required to join her.
Paintings and sculptures aren’t the only thing that lie in the spectrum of ‘art.’ And the Blanton is well aware of this fact. Each month they host Midday Music Series, an exploration between visual art and music.
Lastly, the one you’ve all been wanting to hear, weddings can and do take place at the Blanton. Pretty cool, right? Just imagine the wedding photos with those fading blue walls as the backdrop.
