What a time to be alive “Star Wars” fans!

Thursday morning, on ABC network’s morning news show Good Morning America, we got our first look at the first of the many “Star Wars” spin-offs on ABC network’s morning news show Good Morning America. More movies will be released in addition to the main “episode” entries in the series. Needless to say, there is a lot to talk about.

Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso (Giphy)

Set between Episodes III and IV, the “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” trailer introduces us to Jyn Erso. She is a criminal swept up into joining the rebellion for an important task to gather information on a new super-weapon being completed by the Empire. A certain Death Star perhaps?

From then on, it’s pure “Star Wars” bliss.

The gritty camerawork immediately establishes this as a more grungy, ground-level take on the universe. Shots like Jyn and her crew going up against a series of AT-ATs trying not be annihilated makes this feel almost like a war film.

What’s immediately striking is that the diversity from “Star Wars-Episode VII: The Force Awakens” is still very much intact, and Jyn seems to be an incredibly strong female character to rival Rey.

It’s really the multiple new elements that “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” brings to the table that feeds into my excitement. The Stormtrooper culture seems to get fleshed out considerably, with a brand new black-clad variant that quite frankly looks terrifying. Yikes!

Also the moral ambiguity sells this film for me. The line, “If you continue to fight, what will you become?” says it all. The question expands the “Star Wars” universe into a new thematic place it hasn’t been.

Chills continue to run through my body just thinking about the film, and its only the trailer! There are still several mysteries to unpack. Gareth Edwards, director of the excellent “Monsters” and 2014’s even better “Godzilla” reboot, has brought gold to the silver screen.

Now, time for speculation!

Who is the mysterious figure kneeling in front of what appears to be Darth Vader’s pod? Who is Forest Whitaker playing? Why is Jyn wearing a Stormtrooper outfit?

Most importantly, where can I get a sweet white cape like Ben Mendelsohn’s villain is wearing?!

Now there's a piece of "Star Wars" merch I would buy (Giphy)

There’s really not much else I can say to sell this trailer, so you’ll just have to watch it for yourself.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” hits theaters December 16, 2016.
